What Suburb Should You Live In?

Moving to Chicagoland for a career? Growing your family and need more room? I bet you’re wondering what suburb is right for you.  Moving to the suburbs can be a big transition for a lot of city dwellers. We can assure you that there’s nothing to worry about. Chicago has so many unique and charming suburbs, you’re sure to find one that fits your needs. We’ll be spotlighting specific suburbs in this series, but today wanted to focus on the top items you should consider when making the suburban transition.

Suburban Considerations

  1. The Commute – If you’re still working in the city, your option is to sit in the notorious Chicago traffic or commute in via the Metra or the CTA. Each suburb offers different access to transportation. Even if you’re not working in the city, you’ll want to know how easy it will be for you to access all that Chicago has to offer.
  2. Affordability – Average home prices vary wildly depending on the suburb. Knowing how much home you can afford will help narrow down which suburbs you should focus on.
  3. Education – It’s important to find an agent familiar with the different school districts and what they can offer.  Knowing how different schools rank and what they can offer will definitely impact what suburb is right for you.
  4.  Lifestyle – Letting your agent know what your current lifestyle will help them understand which suburbs are right for you. Do you like to enjoy nightlife? Or do you like to spend your weekends out in nature? Perhaps you like to blend both. Knowing what is important narrows your search.

Next week, we’ll jump into a specific suburb and how it matches up to these considerations. As always, we’re here to help guide you in your perfect real estate transaction.
